Challenge middle and high school students to turn an everyday food into a memorable character with this Food Mascot Character Design Project. Students begin by choosing a food item and developing a mascot with a clear personality, expression, pose, color scheme, and visual identity. They then refine the design through planning, sketching, branding, and presentation. The project combines traditional art skills with concepts from character design, advertising, illustration, and graphic design, giving students a creative way to think about how visual choices communicate personality and meaning. Students are encouraged to make original choices rather than simply drawing a food with a face. They consider who the mascot is, what makes the character recognizable, and how color, shape, expression, accessories, and typography can strengthen the overall design.
